The children were sleeping in the crib as I was strapped in with one of them on my back. Ha! It was beginning to seem logical, however it was still far from being finished. To furnish the home would be a huge effort both in time and money. It was also going to be a challenge to do my favourite shopping. In order to stay within my budget, I started going to estate sales along with my three boys searching for jewels in the rough. Our routine for the week consisted of walking from Thursday to Saturday through garage and estate sales to purchase a mix of vintage and modern pieces, while I spent the weekdays painting sanding in the driveway. It was a bit like it... This was where my passion for the restoration of furniture first began. Once our home was completed, I was unable to quit! On the streets, I rented a small space and sold some objects. Eventually I had more pieces that I knew about and had outgrown the space. More than 1000 people came to my home over the course of a weekend to purchase everything on the ground floor. This is where my business Growing Days was born. The business wasn't just thriving but I was growing my sweet family too. I was trying to find that perfect balance of what it was like starting a new venture and be a mommy too. Growing Days fit perfectly. Nora, my 4th kid was born in 2013. The direction of my business was excellent, however I had to get some down time. I took a pause from creating vintage furniture and slowed down my pace to be at home to take care of the kids. It was exactly what I was looking for. Within a couple of months, the phone began to start to. I started receiving requests from people requesting for assistance with home improvements as well as interior design. A majority of those calling me came from people who attended one of the furniture open house events. I began taking on clients one at a time taking my time however it wasn't long before I had several accounts, and I was operating a complete home renovation business. If you had told me that my company would become the basis for a DIY Network show, I likely would have thought you were crazy. In the present, as I look back on this situation I am laughing.
